You’re expecting some amazing cooking gadget or favorite pair of boots or some functional, make your life easier method or way.
No my friends, it’s much more simple than that. First of all, just know that I dislike Christmas to a level that I won’t divulge… but moreover it just feels terribly inconvenient to me most years (don’t worry this get’s better).
Furthermore I no longer participate in Kris Kringle or Secret Santa here at work because I’ve been burned… too many times. In short, when I write my list of do NOT’s and candy/chocolate or anything mint (aside from gum) are the only items on it. WHY oh WHY would you decide to buy me a Dollar Store TUB of hard peppermint candies?!? That is not what I want to find on my desk first thing in the morning, especially since it promptly went into the trash. This was the year that the Secret Santa moderator (special email address and everything) actually kicked my person out of ever participating in future Secret Santa’s at work and then later got fired… I’m not sure how related his firing was but I’m sure it had something to do with it.
Bringing me to my point, Elfster. This is an online Secret Santa site where you invite a group of people, set rules, people join, an auto selection happens giving you your person you are Secret Santa to, with the ability to anonymously ask them questions directly, create your own profile and wish list (with links to websites to buy them from) group question posting etc.
I have a group of internet friends I met on a Destination Wedding Forum back while planning my wedding and what a great group of girls, it pains me that we span all over the US & Canada or else I would have met them by now. They do meetups a few times a year, one of which I WILL attend and every year they do Elfster.
Against all my feelings of NOT wanting to do another Secret Santa, I decided to join and I’m so happy I did! We have cute questions and discussions every day which helps me get to know all these girls just that much better.
If you don’t have a system in place for friends across the country and perhaps don’t have a lot of money to spend, this is the perfect solution. Even better, if you didn’t feel like creating a profile and uploading a photo, no problem, connect with your Facebook, done & done.
Happy Secret Santa-ing!
